Wellbeing Wednesday #41
Bitesized options for brightening up your hump day
Inspire
“A mind is like a parachute. It doesn’t work if it isn’t open.”
– Frank Zappa
Hi, I’m Holly - certified coach, Breathworks mindfulness facilitator and writer of these Wellbeing Wednesday resources round-ups. 💖 I hope you enjoy them!
My mission is helping you to lead a more mindful, meaningful life, full of zest and zen. Come on in and join our supportive Zestful Zen community. ✨
Look
One of my favourite simple mindfulness practices is looking up at the sky. It’s always there, if you need a reminder to pause and be present. While the components are comfortingly familiar, it’s also a great reminder of impermanence - clouds move, shades vary, weather changes. Even on a still day, observe for a short while and you’ll notice subtle differences. Enjoy the moment!
Listen
Is work wearing you out? Dr , host of A Slight Change of Plans, shares a short and enlightening conversation with guest Ben Walter on how to Boost Your Resilience At Work. His advice for small business owners will likely strike a chord with many on Substack, but is also useful for employees or anyone looking to improve workplace wellbeing.
Watch
I’d hope that Substack’s captive audience doesn’t need convincing, but ’s fantastic TEDx talk, The case for making art when the world is on fire, reminds us of the positive positive impact creativity can have, in the face of global chaos. Amy argues that art offers agency and a way to reclaim our attention, is a channel for activism, supports human connection, builds legacy, and that sharing our art is ultimately an act of generosity. Well worth a watch!

Read
As I try to scale back and stop gold-plating my work, ’s words, encouraging rest (that doesn’t need to be “earned”), in The Art of Doing Less resonated so strongly: “I hope you’ll make space. Not because it’s productive. Not because you’re preparing for something big. But because your soul is worthy of quiet. Of stillness. Of enoughness that isn’t measured in checklists.” YES to more of this! Also includes a bonus podcast episode discussing this concept through conversation.
Ask
In Saturday’s post, I wrote about types of energy leaks which can drain you: identifying them and intentionally plugging the leaks. You can read the full post here:
Some questions you could reflect on:
How is the balance between sustainers and drainers in your life?
What are the greatest energy leaks in your life, right now?
How can you reduce them, or limit their impact?
How have you overcome energy leaks in the past? What did you learn?
Do
Notice your positive impact. It can be easy to underestimate, especially if you plug away quietly, not shouting about your successes. I’ve had plenty of self-doubt in my current 9-5, with underwhelming incremental progress, compared to previous roles. So I threw myself into voluntary “corporate contributions” I’m passionate about, like coaching, wellbeing and mindfulness. Sometimes I wondered if it it made a difference, but this week I’ve received some lovely farewell messages from colleagues about how much they valued my support. So remember, you do make a difference! And if you think someone else does too - tell them! Your encouragement will be appreciated.

I love looking at the sky, especially lying down in the grass. I need to do it more often. Thanks for the reminder!
