What a delightful post! 🐈 I’m much better at rest and play as I’ve got older. I used to feel guilty about taking time for myself, but I know now how important it is.
Fellow Zumba fan here too! Haven’t been to a class for a while now, but I remember how freeing and fun it was. Damn, you’ve reminded me I need to dance more! I bloomin love it! 😻 💃🏼
Thanks so much Georgie! I think age has really helped me mellow. I sometimes feel a bit envious of the energy and enthusiasm of my younger colleagues, but at the same time I think that comes with the newness of everything - I just don't find those things exciting anymore, been there, done that. 😆 But I think age has also given me a different perspective on what matters to me, so I focus more on that - including rest and play!
I adore Zumba, but my regular teacher has been off quite a bit lately so I've missed some classes - it's harder to stay consistent with a random substitute each week. They try their best, but she's AMAZING and I guess we all love our favourite teacher and just want them! Hope you getting your dancing shoes on soon! 💃
I shall be getting those dancing shoes on very soon!
And on my word YES! I 100% agree with your words here: "I just don't find those things exciting anymore, been there, done that. 😆 But I think age has also given me a different perspective on what matters to me, so I focus more on that - including rest and play!"
"Since deepening my mindfulness practice, I’ve been tuning into my body more and regularly noticing “oh I need a rest” (both physical and mental breaks)." -> this is so great. how do you do it? do you meditate?
That's a good question Claudia. I think it's been a combo of things. I meditate daily, although lately not for as long as I'd like! But I also apply mindfulness to daily actions, paying attention to the moment, whether that's what's going on around me, or noticing my bodily sensations and feelings. Focusing on little details has helped me slow down - like spotting wild flowers and ladybirds in my neighbourhood. I'd say mindful movement was kind of a gateway for me on the body-mind link - it really brought my awareness to the tension I held in my body. I'd highly recommend everyone try a Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course (or a Breathworks Mindfulness for Stress course - both take 8 weeks). They helped me get consistent in my practice and embed it into daily life.
Best prescription!
Isn't it just? Though my cats would probably argue that they're the best prescription! 😹
Of course!

awesome, thank you. I will check out these courses!
If you’re interested in the specific courses I took, it was with these two organisations, I’d recommend them both:
