Oh, exactly this, yes! "But I wasn’t motivated by promotions. I didn’t need to oversee lots of people or be at the pinnacle of my organisation. Extrinsic indicators of success didn’t appeal to me." I would love it if we redefined ambition to include more parts of our actual lives.

I think my word for the year is going to be Still. Stay tuned for more on that as I figure out what to write about it!

So glad this resonated with you Holly! Sometimes I feel like I'm an alien in my office environment when I see how everyone else views/measures achievements...

Still is such a lovely word to choose! I think maybe as well as words for 2025 I also need some seasonal words - I've found this winter I want to be slow and still in how I spend my days, almost hibernation mode. But also drawn to nature and the outdoors, even when it's cold and wet - I just wrap up and then it's still cosy! Looking forward to seeing where your writing takes you. ✨

Surrender is a hugely powerful word and mindset, when applied to what we cannot change and to breaking down false beliefs. Curiosity also helps balance the resulting lack of fighting. I'm going to focus more on these two this year. Thank you for the inspiration.

Thanks Lisa, I'm glad it resonated with you! I find it really interesting how we each interpret and apply words - after I chose my words, I saw Beth Kempton's post on the oracle card reading she did (https://bethkempton.substack.com/p/i-did-an-oracle-card-reading-for), which included a surrender card - but the reading of the card was a very different way to how I was thinking of surrender! I guess we all have our unique perspectives and words mean different things depending on context, circumstances and mindset. The important thing is that they support and inspire us. Glad this post has inspired you. 💖
